Coach trip to Athens
Sightseeing including Akropol
The oval-shaped limestone hill towering over Athens, height. 157 m, surface about 3 hectares. In ancient times religious worship center; were leading here 2 ways: Panathenaic and Tripods one. Settlement in athenian Akropolis it's attested from Stone Age, from Mycenaean culture period have been preserved remains of walls, so-called pelasgikon. In 6th century BC Solon and Pizystrat initiated broader extensive construction work here: Atenas' temples were erected (i.e. Hekatompedon) and on the site of the older temple (Archajos Naos) – a temple of Athena Polias, the city's patron;
The old Mycenaean gate was replaced with the first Propylaea.
The Temple of Nike Apteros was built between 425 and 421 according to Kallikrates' design. It's worth noting that it was constructed during the war with Sparta and was completed right after the signing of the Peace of Nicias in 421. Decoration continued until 413. Kallikrates' building was meant to replace a modest older temple that had been destroyed by the Persians in 480.
The Doric Parthenon with its wonderfully preserved columns is a classic piece of Attic architecture, combining the Doric order with Ionic elements.
Areopag
With the preserved Doric temple of Hephaestus in ancient Athens, the council was made up of former archons who served for life. Its name comes from the meeting place - a hill dedicated to Ares (Greek Areios Pagos), where there was a temple of Ares that offered sanctuary to murderers.
The stadium of the first modern Olympics
The Panathenaic Stadium is located on the slope of the Ardettos hill, on the site of an ancient 4th-century BC stadium that was built during the reign of Lycurgus. In ancient times, Panathenaic athletic competitions were held here.
Changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Syntagma Square
The parliament building is called the Second Royal Palace. The guards in traditional uniforms and pom-pom shoes stand watch – every full hour, there is a changing of the guard. It's quite a spectacular event.
Shopping at Athens Square Plaka
It is one of the most beautiful districts of the capital, where there are many historic houses richly decorated with stucco. There are also a few beautiful gardens here, with palms and citrus trees growing.
In this part of the city, there are lots of shops, restaurants, cafés, and green squares. And even though Plaka is aimed at tourists, it hasn't ruined its unique character. At every step, in every alley or nook, there's a new surprise: a church, ancient remains, neoclassical ruins, or Franconian houses – all of it is full of life. Plaka can keep you absorbed for whole days. You can wander around visiting countless shops that attract you with their charm. You can buy hand-woven carpets, furs, leather goods, or items made of gold there. The main, and therefore one of the more expensive, shopping streets is Adrian Street (Adrianou), which runs through the northwest of the district.
Coach trip to the Argolid
Bus trip to the Corinth Canal
The Corinth Canal is a sea navigation waterway in Greece, connecting the Aegean Sea (Saronic Gulf) with the Ionian Sea (Gulf of Corinth). This canal cuts through the Isthmus of Corinth, thus separating the Peloponnese peninsula from the main part of Greece, effectively making it an island. The city of Corinth lies almost at the mouth of the Corinth Canal. It was built between 1882 and 1893. Thanks to it, some ships can save 400 km of travel that they would otherwise have to make around the Peloponnese.
Epidavros – one of the most important monuments of Ancient Greece – a magnificent ancient theater, built at the end of the 4th century BC by Polykleitos the Younger. Because of its amazing acoustics, every year, for many years, ancient dramas are performed here as part of the Athens Festival, especially works by Sophocles, Euripides, and Aeschylus.
Mycenae
East of the road from Corinth to Argos lies, squeezed between the hills, Agamemnon's fortified citadel in Mycenae (Mykínes). It's a place that could be the setting for Greek legends.
Traces of early settlements date back to the 3rd millennium BC. Excavations are being carried out at the site of the former stronghold. The most important finds include the ruins of the acropolis along with the remains of a palace, as well as richly furnished shaft and chamber tombs (they contained gold masks, for example the Mask of Agamemnon, jewelry, and luxury weapons).
The most famous tombs found in the necropolis include the Treasury of Atreus, also called the tomb of Agamemnon, and the tomb of Clytemnestra.
Nafplion
From the 230 meters of height that the Palamidi rock reaches, the view is spectacular. Beneath your feet, a rocky cape cuts into the blue waters of the Argolic Gulf, looking like a short, thick sickle. To the right, the gulf ends, the shore curves in a semicircle, and the coastline extends south along the mountainous coast of the Peloponnese.
What catches the eye are the red roofs of the houses spread out on the cape – that's Nafplion, a city full of historic sites, taverns, and guesthouses, located in picturesque Argolis, where the most ancient monuments in all of Greece can be found. Palamidi is one of the most powerful Venetian-Turkish fortresses in the entire Hellas (admission 4 euros). Its long walls, built between 1711 and 1714, climb the edge of the huge rock of the same name, almost vertical cliffs rising from the sea and towering over Nafplion.
