Valletta - The Capital of Malta
The history of Valletta isn’t very long (the cornerstone was only laid in 1566), but it’s closely tied to the Knights of Malta. They chose the Sciberras Peninsula, located between the Grand Harbour and Marsamxett, as the place to build a fortified city. The founder was Grand Master Jean Parisot de la Valette, after whom the city was named. One of the oldest buildings, the Grand Master's Palace, also comes from this period. In Valletta, the facades of buildings don't reveal what's inside, and the palace is a good example of that. Once you go inside, you come to a large courtyard, from which corridors lead to historic rooms. We start the trip with a panoramic drive along the coast towards the Grand Harbour, over which the island's capital Valletta towers. A walk along Republic Street next to historic palaces and churches. We'll head to St. John's Cathedral where we can see the exceptionally rich interior. In the Cathedral's oratory, you can admire, among other things, Caravaggio's painting 'The Beheading of St. John'. We will visit the Barracca Gardens, which offer a beautiful panoramic view of the Grand Harbour.
Entry ticket to the Cathedral is extra: adults 15 EUR, seniors 12 EUR.
Optional trips:
Gozo Island
A sunny island in the Mediterranean Sea, halfway between Europe and Africa. Located just 6 km from the northern coast of Malta, it is the second largest island in the archipelago.
We can get to the picturesque island of Gozo by ferry from Ćirkewwa port in Malta to Mgarr in Gozo, which takes less than half an hour. The island of the archipelago offers us amazing views that, along with the nymph Calypso, became the reason why Odysseus decided to spend seven years here.
During our trip, we will visit the most interesting scenic spots. We will go to Xlendi, which lies at the very end of a narrow, fjord-like bay. Turquoise water, high cliffs, a tiny beach—these are the charms of this picturesque corner. During a guided tour of the island, we are accompanied by the calm that characterizes the local towns and the magical landscapes. It's worth learning about the history of the Ġgantija temples, which were not included in the UNESCO World Heritage list without reason. Next, we explore the capital Ir-Rabat, which offers a breathtaking view of the city from the famous citadel. While in such an interesting place, there must be time for shopping – Gozo is famous not only for wool products and handmade lace, but you can also buy unique items such as olives, sun-dried tomatoes, capers, prickly pear jam, and honey. After shopping, a visit to Ramla Beach – known for its unusual red sand. Then a visit to the viewpoint around Dwejra where you can observe the rock formations shaped by the sea over thousands of years.
The price of 80 EUR/person includes:
-
coach transport,
-
round-trip ferry ride,
-
tasting of prickly pear liqueur, almonds, etc.,
-
guide service in Polish.
Blue Grotto - Marsaxlokk, Dingli Cliffs - Mdina - Rabat
The Blue Grotto is one of those places you shouldn’t miss when visiting Malta. The name of the cave comes from the cobalt reflections of light bouncing off the water and illuminating the interior.
We'll start the trip from the small fishing village of Wied iż-Żurrieq, where by boat, along picturesque cliffs, we can reach the 'Blue Grotto.' Continuing north, we’ll arrive at the Dingli Cliffs, located 250 meters above sea level. Then we'll move to the central part of the island, where on top of a hill stands Mdina, the old capital surrounded by fortifications.
We will walk through the historic streets and reach the bastions from where a magnificent view opens up. We will also visit the nearby Rabat where St. Paul stayed for three months after arriving in Malta in the year 60. At the end, we will visit the church in Mosta, which has one of the largest domes in the world, and tour the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where a replica of the German bomb dropped on April 9, 1942, is located.
The last stop on the itinerary is the most important of the fishing villages – Marsaxlokk, where along the promenade you'll find lots of cafes and restaurants, and the bright colors of the anchored fishing boats, 'luzzu,' give the bay a unique character.
Price: 80 EUR/person includes:
-
coach transport,
-
guide service in Polish
-
tickets for boats to the Blue Grotto,
-
entrance tickets to the Moście church.
