The history of the Bohatyrowicz family dates back to the 16th century, when a young couple, Jan and Cecylia, came to the Niemen from Poland. They were very secretive and did not want to reveal their real names or background, but their manner indicated that they came from different states. The forest on the Niemen captivated them with its beauty and gave them the shelter they were looking for. For many weeks, Jan laboriously cleared the forest. .Cecylia supported him, prepared meals, and in the evenings she made his time more pleasant by playing the harp and singing. Soon, thanks to Jan's stubbornness and hard work, they managed to turn a stretch of wild forest into a fertile field on which they began to cultivate crops. . Over the years, six daughters and six sons were born. A beautiful and rich town was created on the site of a wild forest.
Eighty years have passed since the day when Jan and Cecylia came to the Niemen. The news of their achievements reached King Zygmunt August, who was hunting in the forests of Krzyszyn.
Zygmunt August appreciated their merits for the country and gave them the nobility and the name of the Bohatyrowiczs, addressing Jan with these words: You were a brave hero who took this land of wild forest and fierce animals, therefore your children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren up to the farthest generations and the very extinction of your family, I give you a name derived from your heroism

After the death of the founders of the family, the children buried them under an old oak tree and placed a cross over the grave, which the next generations of Bohatyrowicz took special care of.
