VALLETTA – THE CAPITAL OF MALTA

The history of Valletta is not long (the foundation stone was laid only in 1566), but it is closely related to the Order of the Knights of Malta. They chose it

the Sciberras peninsula located between the two bays of the Grand Harbor and Marsamxett for the place where the fortified city will be built. The founder was the great master Jean Parisot de la Valette, in whose honor the city was named.

One of the oldest buildings, the Grand Master's Palace, dates from this period. In Valletta, the facades of buildings do not tell what is inside, a good example of which is the palace. Going inside, you find yourself in a large courtyard, from which corridors lead to historic chambers.

We start the trip with a panoramic drive along the coast towards the Grand Harbor overlooked by the capital of the island of Valletta.

A walk along Republika Street, past historic palaces and churches.

We will go to the Cathedral of St. Jana where we will see an exceptionally rich interior. In the oratory of the Cathedral, you can admire, among others, Caravaggio's painting "The Beheading of St. Jana” We will visit the Barracca Gardens, from which there is a beautiful panoramic view and the Grand Harbour.

Grand Harbor cruise

A visit to Valletta would not be complete without seeing it from the sea. The cruise allows you to fully assess its size and stability of the structure. It is from here that its monumental buildings look the most beautiful. Such a trip also gives you the opportunity to take pictures like from a postcard. Of the available cruises, the most interesting is the one around the Grand Harbor Bay. It has its beginning in Sliema and apart from Valletta, you will be able to see the quays and buildings of the cities located on the other side of the bay.

ATTENTION!

entrance ticket to the Cathedral additionally payable: EUR 15 N, EUR 12 U - cruise on the Harbor Bay approx. EUR 25
